First Period

The Lightning struggled in the first period against the Islanders. They remained scoreless throughout the entire first. Meanwhile, the Islanders started off strong scoring their first goal of the night only 1 minute 21 seconds into the first. Brock Nelson scored the early first goal with assists by Jordan Eberle and Mathew Barzal. Quickly following, Cal Clutterbuck scored a second goal for the Islanders. Matt Martin and Casey Cizikas assisted on the goal. After that, Devon Toews scored the third and final goal of the period. Consequently, the Lightning ended the period down by 3 goals.
End of First Period: 3-0 Islanders

Second Period

In the second period, Casey Cizikas scored his own goal for the Islanders. Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck assisted on the goal. In effect, this gave the Islanders a 4 goal lead on the Lightning. Finally, the Lightning came through with a goal of their own. Ryan McDonagh scored the first Lightning goal of the night, with Steven Stamkos and Ondrej Palat assisting. The period ended with the Lightning trailing by 3 goals.
End of Second Period: 4-1 Islanders

Third Period

The Lightning pulled their goalie in the end of the third to attempt a comeback. However, they were unsuccessful in doing so. Instead, Josh Bailey scored an empty netter goal in the last minute of the game. As a result, the Lightning faced a 1-5 defeat from the New York Islanders.
End of Third Period: 5-1 Islanders
