Tampa Bay Lightning Win 5-2
Tonight, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Florida Panthers in a 5-2 victory in their first game of the season.
Kicking off the game with a strong start, Nikita Kucherov scored the first goal of the night just over 6 minutes into the game. Sergachev and Joseph assisted on the first goal-scoring play of the night. Following this goal, the Lightning defense held the Panthers to a scoreless period. The first period ended in a 1-0 lead for Tampa Bay.
End of the First Period: 1-0 Tampa Bay Lightning
Coming into the second period, Mike Hoffman of the Florida Panthers got their first goal of the night, tying the game at 2 minutes and 35 seconds into the second period. Trocheck and Connolly assisted on the play. However, a little more than halfway into the second, the Lightning took charge and regained the lead with a goal by Kevin Shattenkirk, assisted by Sergachev and Killorn. With no furth scores in the period, the second came to an end with the Lightning still holding a one-goal lead.
End of the Second Period: 2-1 Tampa Bay Lightning
As the first game of the season came to its last period, both sides of the ice made scores in attempts to pull off that first win. The Panthers’ Vincent Trocheck scored a goal with Ekblad assisting, bringing the game back to a tie. However, the tie was shortlived as Ondrej Palat scored a Lightning goal less than a minute later with assists from Killorn and Sergachev. Shortly after, Pat Maroon put another Lightning goal on the scoreboard with Hedman and Kucherov assisting. Finally, Erik Cernak scored the last goal of the night with Cirelli assist, ending the Lightning’s first game with 5 goals.
