The first period came pack with action and many goals to kick off the game. Starting off the game, Tyler Johnson scored the first goal of the night. Point and Kucherov assisted on the goal. Following, Alex Killorn scored an unassisted goal, giving the Lightning a 2 score lead. Then, John Carlson scored the first goal of the night for the Capitals with Kuznetsov assisting. Lastly, Alex Killorn scored a second goal of the night with Cirelli and Joseph to end the first period in favor of the Lightning.

Next, Alex Killorn scored his third goal of the night, achieving a hat trick for the game. Kucherov assisted on the score. Closing out the game, Yanni Gourde scored the final goal of the night with Erne and Hedman assisting, ending the game with a Tampa Bay victory
