Tampa Bay Lightning VS Washington Capitals Game Recap
The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Washington Capitals in a 5-4 overtime victory win.
Starting off tonight’s game between the Lightning and the Capitals. The Capitals were first to put a score on the board. Lars Eller scored the first goal of the night with Hagelin assisting, just over 7 minutes into the game. However, there were no other scores in the period. Consequently, this ended the first with the Tampa Bay Lightning down by one goal.
End of the First Period: 1-0 Washington Capitals
Coming into the second period, the game picked up drastically with a lot of scoring on both sides of the ice. Firstly, kicking off the scores this period, Nikita Kucherov scored the first goal of the night just 1 minute and 19 seconds into the second. Stamkos and Hedman assisted on the goal. Next, Steven Stamkos came in with a goal of his own and the second Lightning goal of the night less than a minute later with Miller assisting. Then, Anthony Cirelli scored a third consecutive Lightning goal less than 7 minutes into the second with Joseph assisting.
Ending the Lightning’s consecutive goal streak for the night, Carl Hagelin came back with a Capitals goals with Eller assisting. Then, T.J. Oshie scored a second consecutive Washington goal with Ovechkin and Carlson assisting. Finally, the Lightning retaliated with one more Tampa Bay goal before the end of the period. Nikita Kucherov wrapped up the second with his second goal of the night with Stamkos and Palat assisting on the goal. As a result, the period ended with a one-goal Lightning lead.
End of the Second Period: 4-3 Tampa Bay Lightning
The game began to slow down as we headed into the third period. Most of the third passed without a goal from either team. It wasn’t until the last minute of the game that we saw a goal, which was by the Washington Capitals. Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the final goal of regular gameplay with Backstrom and Oshie assisting on the play. Therefore, this ended the period at a tie game and sent the two teams into overtime.
End of the Third Period: 4-4 Tied
Heading into overtime, the tension was high. With a high-scoring, 4-4 tie game, it was hard to say how overtime might play out. However, just over 3 minutes into overtime, Victor Hedman, assisted by Gourde, came through with the fifth Lightning goal of the night. As a result, the night ended with a Tampa Bay victory.
