The Capitals started off the night dominating the period. Nicklas Backstrom scored the first goal of the night with assists from Wilson and Djoos. Secondly, T.J Oshie scored a goal with Jensen and Hagelin assisting. Then, T.J. Oshie scored his second goal of the night with Carlson and Kuznetsov assisting. Washington ended the period leading the game by 3 goals.

Coming into the second period, Washington opened with yet another goal. Nicklas Backstrom scored his second goal of the night, and the fourth consecutive Capitals goal of the game. Following this, the Lightning got their first goal of the night. J.T. Miller scored the first Tampa Bay goal with Sergachev and McDonagh assisting. However, the second came to an end with the Lightning still trailing by 3.
End of the Second Period: 4-1 Washington Capitals
Starting off the third period, Tyler Johnson opened with an unassisted goal for Tampa Bay. However, the Capitals took back over the game offensively. Alex Ovechkin scored the fifth goal for the Capitals with Oshie and Backstrom assisting. Then, Ovechkin followed up with his second goal with Carlson and Kuznetsov assisting, giving the Capitals 6 goals for the game. Tampa Bay was able to get one more score on the board with Nikita Kucherov scoring a goal in the last minute of the game. However, they were not able to make an offensive comeback before the game came to an end. Consequently, the Washington Capitals pulled off a 6-3 victory over Tampa Bay.
