The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-2.
The storm rolled in ready for a win from the very start of the game. They wasted no time in putting some Lightning goals on the board. Just over 3 minutes into the first, Ryan McDonagh scored the first goal of the night. Cernak and Cirelli assisted on the goal. Following, Nikita Kucherov scored a second Lightning goal with Point and Hedman assisting. The Lightning defense played equally well, keeping the Red Wings from obtaining a score in the first period. The first wrapped up with Tampa Bay holding a 2-goal lead.

While the first period played out with multiple Lightning goals and strong defense, the match was much tighter in the second period. As the game progressed through the second, not much came from either offensive line. There were several penalties in the period, the majority of which were on Tampa Bay. Most of these power plays did not lead to a scoring outcome. However, just before the end of the second period, Detroit managed to get a score on the board with one of their power play opportunities. Thomas Vanek scored the power play goal and first Red Wings goal of the night that brought their scoring deficit down to 1. Kronwall and Zadina assisted on the Detroit goal.
