The first period was held to only one goal from either team. Early in the first, Brayden Point, of the Tampa Bay Lightning, scored the first goal of the night. Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos assisted on the goal.
End of the First Period: 1-0 Tampa Bay Lightning
The game opened up more with goals on both sides of the ice in the second period. First was a Lightning goal from Mathieu Joseph, with assists from Steven Stamkos and Braydon Coburn. Then, Cody Eakin of the Vegas Knights retaliated with a goal. Jon Merrill assisted.
End of the Second Period: 2-1 Tampa Bay Lightning
In a turn of events, the Vegas Knights came back with another goal and tied the game 2-2. Valentin Zykov scored the second goal of the night, assisted by William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault. The scoring ended there, sending the game into overtime.
End of the Third Period: 2-2 Tied
With the game in overtime, both defenses buckled down. Neither team was able to get a goal to close out the game, making it the only period of the night without a goal. After overtime ended with a still tied match, the game headed to a shootout to determine the winner. After 3 rounds, the the final and only goal of the shootout was made by Alex Tuch of the Vegas Knights.
