Tampa Bay Lightning VS Columbus Blue Jackets Game 2 Recap
The Columbus Blue Jackets took control early on in the game, starting with their offensive gains in the first period. First, Cam Atkinson scored the first goal of the night with Duchene assisting. Then, Zach Werenski scored a second goal for Columbus in the first period with Duchene assisting on the play. Unfortunately, Tampa Bay was unable to gain any offensive control of the game. Thus, they ended the first with a two-goal deficit on the game.
End of the First Period: 2-0 Columbus Blue Jackets
Heading into the second period, the Blue Jackets controlled the game with a two-goal lead. Then, they furthered their lead in the second with Matt Duchene scoring a goal, assisted by Panarin and Werenski. This was the only goal in the period, putting Tampa Bay even further behind on the game.
End of the Second Period: Columbus Blue Jackets
As the game went into the final period of the game, the Lightning still faced a scoreless game and trailed by three goals. Early in the third period, Tampa did finally break the potential for a shutout with their first goal of the night. Mikhail Sergachev scored a goal with Miller and Cernak assisting on the play. However, this was their only goal of the night. Riley Nash followed up with a goal, assisted by Jenner. Then, Artemi Panarin scored the final goal of the night with Duchene and Bjorkstrand assisting on the play. The game ended with Tampa’s second loss in round 1. Making matters worse, Tampa Bay will face their next game against the Blue Jackets without Nikita Kucherov. Before the end of the game, frustration set in and Kucherov was called for a boarding hit on Nutivaara. Kucherov now faces a one-game suspension after the hit, which could spell out even more difficulty for Tampa, who has already struggled so far in the playoffs.
