Tampa Bay Lightning VS Columbus Blue Jackets Game Recap

Tampa Bay was eliminated from the playoffs after a 7-3 defeat against the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 4 of the first series.

First Period

Starting off the night early in the first period, Alexandre Texier scored the first goal of the night with assists from Jones and Dubois. Shortly after, less than four minutes into the start of the game, Pierre-Luc Dubois scored a second goal for Columbus with Bjorkstrand and Clendening assisting. Then, Steven Stamkos came through with the last goal of the period and put the Lightning on the board, early in the game. Kucherov and Cirelli assisted on the scoring play. The first period came to an end with the Lightning down by one goal.
End of the First Period: 2-1 Columbus Blue Jackets

Second Period

Opening up the scoring for the second period, Seth Jones scored a Columbus goal, giving them a two-goal lead. Atkinson and Duchene assisted on the play. Then, Cedric Paquette scored a Lightning goal with Coburn and Rutta assisting. Next, Brayden Point came through with another Lightning goal with Stamkos and Kucherov assisting on the play. By this point, the Lightning tied the game up at three goals. However, just before the end of the second, Oliver Bjorkstrand scored a goal with Harrington and Dubois assisting on the play. As a result, he broke the tie in Columbus’ favor and the period ended with the Lightning trailing by one goal.
End of the Second Period: 4-3 Columbus Blue Jackets

Third Period

Heading into the third period, the Blue Jackets lead the game by one. Most of the period passed without any goals from either team. As the third reached the last two minutes fo the game, Tampa Bay pulled their goalie in an attempt to make a comeback on the game. Unfortunately, that did not end up being the case as the Columbus Blue Jackets quickly scored three empty-net goals to close out the game. Artemi Panarin scored the first empty-netter, unassisted. Then, Alexandre Texier scored the next goal with Werenski and Foligno assisting on the play. Lastly, Matt Duchene sealed the victory with Columbus’ seventh goal of the night, assisted by Savard and Harrington. Unfortunately, this meant the end of Tampa Bay’s playoff season.
